Wollie The Cat Makes 6-mile Trek Back To NH Home
No one is quite sure the full story of how one cat made it six miles in three days back to his home in New Hampshire.
Wollie the cat was a stray and was taken in last summer by Barbara Oliphant. Her husband was later hospitalized with a stroke and that left Barbara with little time to take care of Wollie. She had no choice but to ask Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford to take her cat.
Once her husband became better, Barbara began to miss Wollie.
Her daughter decided to secretly go and adopt Wollie to surprise her mother. But something went wrong; Wollie had poked his way through the carrier in the parking lot and escaped.
Three days after Wollie’s escape, he showed up across the street from Barbara’s home walking towards the house.
"I just felt it was a miracle," she said. "I felt the cat wanted us."
He ate three cans of cat food and slept for about 24 hours.
"Only he knows the story, where he went, what he was doing," Laura Montenegro of the rescue league said. "I just still can't get over it."
