Lodi Woman Says Teen’s Selfless Gesture Changed Her Life

A Lodi woman was down in dumps and struggling to make ends met when a stranger came along and gave her hope.

Robynn Fried was in a pretty low spot a few weeks ago; she was unemployed, almost completely broke and struggling to put food on her table, according to CBC Sacramento.

“I was literally two weeks from being homeless. We were putting in our 30 days and we were going to be homeless,” Fried said.

A 14-year-old boy knocked on her door selling newspaper subscriptions and did something that changed her life with an gift she will never forget.

Artem Smao was trying to raise money for a trip to Tahoe; Fried explained to him her circumstances and told him she couldn’t give him money.  After hearing her story, the boy reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope full of the cash he had earned for his trip and handed it over to her.

She told Smao that she could not accept his money.

“Like this, she’s like ‘no I couldn’t.’ I’m like, ‘why?’ She’s like, ‘no, I couldn’t take it from you.’ Alright, so I just went to the next door,” Smao said.

His generosity awed her.

“I had just given up on getting a pharmacy job at all. Literally, the day before I’d just given up hope and what he did gave it back, brought it all back,” said Fried.

Right after that day, Fried got a call about a job opening at a Stockton Walgreens and began working the very next week in the pharmacy department.

His parents must be so proud!! This kid has a really big heart. I love how in the story, he is so "Like this, she’s like ‘no I couldn’t.’ I’m like, ‘why?’ She’s like, ‘no, I couldn’t take it from you.’ Alright, so I just went to the next door,” Smao said. ".. Great!!!
