Willis & Co insurance brokers awarded for 'doing the right thing'

A Northern Ireland insurance broker has won the title of community broker of the year at an awards ceremony in London for helping victims of flooding on an estate in Dunmurry.

Willis & Company were the only Northern Ireland broker to be shortlisted. The residents of Killeaton faced four foot of flood water and sewage during severe floods last summer but were given help on a pro bono basis by Willis & Company.

Managing director Billy Bennington (far right) said: "We knew the story of our pro bono work for the Killeaton flooding victims was a strong one as it had already been recognised locally in the media.

"The award is a fantastic boost for everyone of our 50 staff back in Belfast. I was thrilled to collect the award on behalf of my colleague Amanda McConkey and her team.

"Whilst it is always nice for regional brokers to pick up national awards, on this occasion our entry – which was entitled "doing the right thing" – clearly articulated a genuine good news story for the industry throughout the UK.

"I couldn't be more proud."

Mr Bennington presented the award to Belfast staff Mark Willis, Holly Stanley and Amanda McConkey.
