The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is recognizing one of their own who they say went above and beyond to help a victim of crime.
Officials say Officer Derek Pratico responded to a vehicle burglary back in March. Officers say the owner of the vehicle was extremely upset because her son's birthday present as well as other belongings were taken from her vehicle.
The victim said she did not have any money to replace what was already purchased.
The Sheriff’s Office says the next day Officer Pratico went to the store and purchased with his own money a birthday present, birthday cake, and birthday card for the young boy and took it to him to celebrate his birthday. He also purchased a $100 gift card to give to the mother to help her get back on her feet.
Officer Pratico said, "I did not do this for any recognition, I just felt it was the right thing to do at that moment."
The Sheriff’s Office posted this on their Facebook page about the good deed: “Great job, Officer Pratico! We are so proud of you. Thank you for making a positive impact on this Jacksonville family.”
