A Wilmington toddler is being credited with getting help for his aunt Thursday after she suffered a seizure while he was out in the park with her, police said.
Three-year-old Tyrone Copeland Jr. was playing with his aunt in Speakman Park about 3 p.m. when she suddenly became disoriented after suffering a seizure, Wilmington police spokesman Officer Mark Ivey said.
The boy, realizing that his aunt needed medical attention, ran across the park to a stranger and asked her to call 911 for him.
Then he returned to his aunt’s side and provided his aunt’s name and his own name and address for arriving officers and paramedics, Ivey said.
The officers were able to locate his father who came to the park to assist.
In recognition of his heroic actions, the city’s Department of Police Neighborhood Policing Unit are planning to honor the boy at a public ceremony next week, Ivey said.
The time and place has not yet been finalized.
