He doesn't just talk the talk … he walks the walk!

Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of the popular syndicated TV program "The Dr. Oz Show," jumped into action when a terrible car accident occurred just outside of his Rockefeller Center offices leaving a woman horribly injured. However, it was a good Samaritan plumber who appears to be the real hero in this story.

According to New York City's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, a speeding taxi jumped the curb at the corner of 49th Street and 6th Avenue at 11:19 a.m. ET Tuesday morning, injuring two people: a 40-year-old male cyclist who was thrown about 15 feet, and a 23-year-old female British tourist who suffered what was described as "a traumatic leg injury."

The New York Post and the New York Daily News report that the female victim's name is Sian Green, and she had just arrived to NYC from England on Monday night. She had bought a hot dog from a nearby vendor when she began walking down the street and was hit by the taxi.

Dr. Oz heard the crash from his studio six levels above and rushed down to the street to help. By the time he got there, however, the situation was mostly under control due to the actions of the first responders.
The Post and the Daily News report that two quick-thinking good Samaritans responded immediately. According to the Post, Green's left foot was completely severed below the shin, and "part of her right leg was dangling by its skin." A pizza truck owner named Max Crespo reportedly grabbed the severed part of her left foot and placed it in a bucket with ice from street vendors.

Both news outlets report that David Justino, a plumber who was on a coffee break from working at a nearby Duane Reade store, used his belt as a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding.

"I just grabbed my belt, went over, lifted her up, put it on and held it," Justino told the Post. "From the shin down, [her leg] was gone. I just worried about the blood, there was too much blood."

Justino tells the Post he then "grabbed a dog leash from a passerby" for the other leg.

According to Dr. Oz., whose T-shirt and jeans were covered with blood, Justino may have been the one who saved the woman's life. "I helped put on the tourniquet," the doctor told the Daily News. "Luckily, Dave had a belt."
Justino told the Daily News that the injured woman was "a strong girl, a brave girl."

"She was conscious the whole time, the poor thing,” he added. “I wished she would have passed out."

EMS responders arrived quickly on the scene and the woman was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Although the cause of the accident is still being investigated, witnesses tell the Daily News that the taxi may have been trying to avoid hitting the bicyclist. The Post reports that the taxi driver was in an argument with the cyclist, when he stepped on the gas.

"He either gunned it or thought he hit the brakes and [instead] hit the accelerator, but that cab took off," shaken tourist Jeffrey Hayes, 65, of Massachusetts, told the Post of the horrific accident.

"It just zoomed, and [the bicyclist] went flipping up over the hood, over the windshield. He got carried 15 feet."

A rep for Dr. Oz issued the following statement. "As Dr. Oz responded to an accident outside his office, the NYC emergency first responders, who are among best in the world, were already treating a woman who had been struck by a cab. The paramedics expertly treated the woman at the scene with the help of a good Samaritan who used his belt as a tourniquet. Our thoughts and prayers are with the woman and her family."

Dr. Oz later told the Post that he spoke with Green's mom over in England. "She has no friends here except the person she came with," he said.
